Barielle - Wanna Samba?

Today I'd like to share my thoughts on Barielle's *Wanna Samba? from the Carnival Fiesta collection.  The following pic shows two coats, shot outdoors on a sunny day.
To my eye, Wanna Samba? is a shimmery duochrome, reading greenish-grey in some light and pinky-purple in others.  It is unique to my collection and really pretty.  It applied quite easily, with a rather thin formula, and was opaque in two coats.  The only flaw to this polish was that it chipped VERY easily.  It looked great, as pictured above, on the day of application but after showering the very next day, HUGE chips of polish had come off on most nails.  I was really disappointed.  I did not apply top coat which, of course, would have extended the wear but I did use base and found that compared to other polished I've used without top coating, this chipped far easier than most.  A bummer, for sure.  It's a really pretty color and next time, I will top coat it, for sure.

China Glaze - Running in Circles

I'm going to get right to the point.  I...LOVE...THIS...COLOR!  I was really excited to swatch China Glaze's *Running in Circles from the Cirque du Soleil collection.  As you probably know if you're a frequent reader of this blog, it is rare that I meet a blue or green polish that I do not love.  Well, this one, most definitely, did NOT disappoint.  I know that some folks are not into tootsie pics and I do apologize if you're one of them but I knew even before swatching that this beautiful holiday green would be one I'd want to wear for a while so I used it on my toes.  If you don't mind my foot, here's the pic!

Running in Circles is a gorgeous kelly green glitter.  It dried super-smooth and packs a shine that just won't quit.  I stuck my foot right up on the dashboard of my car to get this shot on a sunny day.  Two coats provided perfect coverage.  I really cannot say enough about this fabulous color.  Knowing the way I am with polished toes, this color will probably be with me into the start of the new year.  Ho-ho-whoa!  LOVE it!

China Glaze - It's a Trap-eze!

Today, I'd like to share one of the polishes from China Glaze's "Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away" collection.  This one is called *It's a Trap-eze!  Each of the following pics features two coats over one coat of base.
Shot outdoors, in sun.

Shot outdoors, in shade.

Shot indoors.

To my eye, It's a Trap-eze can probably best described as multi-colored glitter in varying sizes embedded in a sheer, milky white base.  I had a bit of trouble applying it.  I found that the glitter applied unevenly and often hung off the edges of my nails.  It also dried rather bumpy, as one would probably expect from such a chunky glitter.  However, my husband really liked this one on me and with a top coat, it wasn't rough-feeling, just bumpy.  It is definitely unique in my collection and if you're a fan of chunky glitters, it would certainly be worth a try.

Be sure to check back for more colors in this collection to be featured soon!

Zoya Ornate Collection - Part 4

Finally, the last three shades in the Zoya Ornate collection, *Logan, *Ziv and *Blaze.  I decided to combine these into one mani as they just SCREAMED "Christmas" to me and it's never too soon to get into the holiday spirit.  First up, the pics.
From thumb to pinky: two coats each of Logan, Ziv, Logan, Blaze and Ziv, shot indoors.

From thumb to pinky: two coats each of Logan, Ziv, Logan, Blaze and Ziv, shot outdoors, in sun.

From thumb to pinky: two coats each of Logan, Ziv, Logan, Blaze and Ziv, shot outdoors, in shade.

Logan is a gorgeous forest green foil and I LOVE this polish.  It went on smooth as silk and had the most beautiful finish.  Definitely a winner.

Ziv is a gold foil.  I'm not a huge fan of gold polishes as a general rule but this one applied really easily and looked great in two coats.  It did, however, chip within a day.

Last up, Blaze, a unique deep red that had semi-holo glitter.  I say semi-holo because, to my eye, it almost looked almost like the glitter was sandwiched between two coats of a dark red jelly.  Definitely unlike any color I've tried.

Each of these three colors is lovely and perfect for Christmas time but my favorite of the three is Logan.

Zoya Ornate Collection - Part Three

Today I'd like to share the third polish in Zoya's Ornate collection, *Electra.  Electra is a holo bar glitter, the first bar glitter I've tried.  Let me get right to the pics.
From thumb to pinky: Two coats of Electra, one coat over Zoya Logan, one coat over Zoya Blaze, one coat over Zoya Ziv and one coat over Zoya Storm, shot indoors.

From thumb to pinky: Two coats of Electra, one coat over Zoya Logan, one coat over Zoya Blaze, one coat over Zoya Ziv and one coat over Zoya Storm, shot outdoors.

I've got to be honest, I really didn't care for this polish.  It looked really pretty in the bottle but it was awkward to apply.  The bar glitter hung off the edges of my nails and I'm just not a fan of how it looked.  It did, however, dry nice and smooth which was a pleasant surprise.

So, yeah, apparently I'm not a bar glitter fan.  But, if you are, I'd say that the formula on this one was fairly nice.

Zoya Ornate Collection - Part Two

Today I'd like to share the second of six colors in Zoya's Ornate collection for 2012.  It is called *Aurora and I used a base and two coats of Aurora for the following pics.
Shot outdoors on a cloudy day

Shot indoors under bright artificial light

Shot indoors under different lighting

Aurora is a true beauty.  Like Storm (which I reviewed HERE), Aurora is chock full of holo glitter.  It applied smoothly and easily.  As was the case with Storm (and pretty much all the holo glitters I've tried), it reads completely differently under bright light than it does in shade or a darker setting.  What was even more interesting to me is how Aurora looks like a deep grape in a darker environment and is more plum under brighter lighting.  Very cool and I've got to say, I find it fascinating to uncover the layers and dimensions to polishes like this as the lighting changes.  So far, Zoya is two for two with this collection.  I love these shades and can't wait to try out the remaining four.  Please check back for my reviews.

You can purchase Aurora as well as the rest of the Zoya line of polishes at zoya.com.

Zoya Ornate Collection - Part One

Meow, kittens!  First off, I am SO sorry for the delay in getting this collection swatched and reviewed for you.  It has been a rather crazy few months for me and I spent six weeks in New York while these little lovelies languished here at my apartment in Florida.  I returned to FL accompanied by my mother on her nine day vacation and time got away from me so, yeah, without further ado, I proudly present the first of six colors in the amazing Zoya Ornate Collection, *Storm.  For the following pics, I used a base coat and two coats of Storm.
Shot indoors, under a lamp

Shot outdoors, out of direct sun

Shot in my car, under direct sun

This color, as has always been my experience with Zoya, applied like a dream.  It dried smooth to the touch,  a definite plus.  I'm going to be honest, I applied this color pretty much directly under a light bulb, so the holo effect blew me away, just a glorious rainbow.  However, when I left that direct light, the polish tended to read more like an ordinary silver glitter.  This tends to be the case with most holo glitters but it did bum me out slightly since it started out with a *bang*.  The first picture reflects my original impression, the second the "meh" silver glitter-y look (actually, that's a bit unfair.  It was still a lot prettier than many traditional silver glitters I've tried.)  But in my car, with the bright sunlight streaming in my window, it was back, the amazing holo I loved so much.  This color also has some amazing staying power.  I swatched on Wednesday and took the third pic yesterday, Friday, and there was not one chip.  (Of course, now that I said that...)  This is all without top coat, too.

Overall, this color is AMAZING under artificial light or in direct sun and is still awfully pretty, though less impressive, indoors or in shade.  VERY glad to have it in my collection!

Stay tuned, the remaining five shades in this collection will be featured in upcoming posts.  Thanks, as always, for stopping by!

Dr.'s REMEDY BCA Shades 2012

Meow, kittens!  Today I'd like to share the three Dr's REMEDY Breast Cancer Awareness shades for 2012.  They are *PURITY Pink, *NURTURE Nude Pink and *HOPEFUL Hot Pink.  For information about these shades you can check out their press release HERE.  First up, the pics:
PURITY Pink, three coats, shot indoors.

PURITY Pink, three coats, shot outdoors.

NURTURE Nude Pink, two coats, shot indoors.

NURTURE Nude Pink, two coats, shot outdoors.

HOPEFUL Hot Pink, two coats, shot indoors.

HOPEFUL Hot Pink, two coats, shot outdoors.

NURTURE Nude Pink is a very pale pink.  As I stated, I used three coats to get the color shown above.  The quality of this polish, as is the case with all the Dr.'s REMEDY polishes I've tried, was quite nice.  However, I'm not particularly a fan of nudes so this wasn't my taste.  Of course, different strokes for different folks.

PURITY Pink is a bit more pigmented and has a bit of pretty shimmer.  I definitely preferred this to NURTURE.  Again, nice easy application with a smooth workable formula.

Last up, by far my favorite of the three, HOPEFUL Hot Pink.  This vibrant pink cream is much more my style.  Great formula, richly pigmented and just a fun look.

When purchased during the month of October, Dr.'s REMEDY will donate 10% of the proceeds from the sales of these three shades to Living Beyond Breast Cancer so please, if these strike your fancy, hurry and purchase them asap so that your purchase can help a great cause.

Sally Hansen Magnetic Nail Color - Part Two

Happy August, kittens!  Today I'd like to share the remainder of the Sally Hansen Magnetic Nail Color Collection. I swatched and reviewed three colors in a previous post which you can view HERE.  Now I'd like to share the other five colors, *Polar Purple, *Kinetic Copper, *Golden Conduct, *Graphite Gravity and *Silver Elements.  Here are some pics for you:
From thumb to pinky, two coats each of Polar Purple, Kinetic Copper, Golden Conduct, Graphite Gravity and Silver Elements, shot indoors.

From thumb to pinky, two coats each of Polar Purple, Kinetic Copper, Golden Conduct, Graphite Gravity and Silver Elements, shot outdoors.

I really enjoy these polishes!  My nail art skills are limited, to say the least, and these great magnetic polishes allow even humble me to create a beautiful and funky look with little effort.  The sparkle of Golden Conduct and Silver Elements, visible in the bottle, translated beautifully to the nail and the other three, while not sparkly, are still quite lovely.  My husband looooves the look of these polishes and was so impressed!

If you have tried these polishes, do share your thoughts, I'd always love to hear them.

xoxo,
K

Barielle Dazzling Diamonds Collection - Swatches and Review

Today I'd like to share another Barielle Collection called *Dazzling Diamonds.  This collection is comprised of five fun glitters.  Feast your eyes:
From thumb to pinky, two coats each of Cherry Blossom Sparkler, Ebony Rainbow, Purple Hearts, Pink Diamond and Stardust, shot indoors.

From thumb to pinky, two coats each of Cherry Blossom Sparkler, Ebony Rainbow, Purple Hearts, Pink Diamond and Stardust, shot outdoors.

Barielle's website describes Cherry Blossom Sparkler as a "red glitter" but really, it's much more than that.  It has a red jelly base which makes it quite wearable alone as well as layered, though I would probably go with at least one more coat than the two I used if I were to wear it that way.  It was quite surprising and I liked it a lot more than I expected to.  Ebony Rainbow is described as a "dark multi glitter".  It is comprised of tiny glitter in a rainbow of colors and it quite pretty.  Purple Hearts is described as a "purple glitter" but it's so much more than that.  It consists of multi-colored small glitter but also large purple glitter pieces.  It's quite fun!  Pink Diamond is a pink glitter in a clear base.  All of these glitters, with the exception of Cherry Blossom Sparkler, are in a clear base and therefore perfect for layering.  Last up is Stardust, a holo glitter.  It is not all that unique but still very nice in its own right.

Here are some shots of the glitters layered over Barielle's Summer Fun Collection, which I reviewed in my previous post.
From thumb to pinky, one coat of Cherry Blossom Sparkler over two coats of Berry Go Round, one coat of Ebony Rainbow over two coats of Mint Ice Cream Cone, one coat of Purple Hearts over two coats of Ocean Breeze, one coat of Pink Diamond over two coats of Pink Flip-Flops and one coat of Stardust over two coats of Peach Popsicle (renamed Peach Pop on Barielle website), shot indoors.

From thumb to pinky, one coat of Cherry Blossom Sparkler over two coats of Berry Go Round, one coat of Ebony Rainbow over two coats of Mint Ice Cream Cone, one coat of Purple Hearts over two coats of Ocean Breeze, one coat of Pink Diamond over two coats of Pink Flip-Flops and one coat of Stardust over two coats of Peach Popsicle (renamed Peach Pop on Barielle website), shot outdoors.

I really like these polishes layered and wouldn't wear any of them alone with the possible exception of Cherry Blossom Sparkler.   However, as top coats, they are a lot of fun!

K
