411 on Holiday Revo Lip Balm!

Hello, friends! I have what I think is some hot scoop on holiday Revos. If you're anything like me, you are OBSESSED with these little spheres of joy. Well, I am happy to reveal that today, at my local Stop and Shop grocery store, I spotted a display full of three Revo holiday scents. They have Candy Cane, Chocolate Mint and Sugar Cookie. Now, you might be thinking "Kari, these are not new scents" and you would be correct. However, to the best of my knowledge, they were previously only available at Walgreens as part of limited edition collections. I happened to have Chocolate Mint from Halloween 2014 and Sugar Cookie from Holiday 2014 but I had never seen Candy Cane until today. Needless to say, I grabbed it right up. Even cooler, they were on sale at 2 for $5.00, down from their usual price of $2.99 each. (Even cooler still, you can buy one item from a "2 for" sale at Stop and Shop and it will still be the sale price. Just make sure you sign up for their free discount card.)
Here's my beautiful new Candy Cane!
Don't be fooled by the CareOne name. This is, in fact, an authentic Revo. They market under several store-branded names such as Well at Walgreens and Beauty 360 at CVS.

This is a great opportunity to add three hard to find scents to your collection or to stock up on backups if that's your thing.

Rimmel London Keep Calm and Lip Balm

*PRESS SAMPLE*

Hi, everybody! Today I have some lip balms to share with you. I will be showing you three colors from Rimmel London's Keep Calm and Lip Balm collection. I was super-excited to try these for you! The colors I am sharing are 020 Pink Blush (Keep Calm and Kiss), 030 Berry Blush (Keep Calm and Rock) and 050 Violet Blush (Keep Calm and Party).
Here they are in their packaging.

Out of the packaging (aren't they adorable?)

Lastly, swatches of, from left to right, Pink Blush, Berry Blush and Violet Blush

First off, the packaging for these is about the cutest stinkin' thing I've seen in a long time. LOVE it! As you can see from the swatches (on my very fair skin), they are not super-pigmented but after about seven swipes, I got the color you see above. Another downside, for me, is the scent of these, which I found to be slightly floral. I would have much preferred for these to have a fruity scent or be completely unscented. Their fragrance was slightly off-putting. They are reasonably moist though the moisture doesn't last particularly long. I found myself having to reapply quite frequently. I think Rimmel London had the spark of a great idea with these and with a little fine-tuning, they could be a serious hit.

You can find these lip balms at www.rimmellondon.com or at Walmart stores.

China Glaze Holiday 2015

*PRESS SAMPLES*

Hey there, friends! Today I have another holiday collection to share with you, this one from China Glaze. There are twelve colors in all so let me start with the pics!

From thumb to pinky, two coats each of Wine Down for What?, Peppermint to Be, Son of a Nutcracker, Mix and Mingle and Better Not Pout

From thumb to pinky, two coats each of Ugly Sweater Party, Bring on the Bubbly, Soiree I Didn't Do It, Don't Get Elfed Up and Brand Sparkin' New Year

From thumb to pinky, two coats each of Coal Hands Warm Heart, Break the Ice (alternating)

To be completely honest, I wasn't a fan of any of the glitters in this collection. They were thick and chunky and just not my personal taste. However, I have one serious LOVE, namely Don't Get Elfed Up, As for the other non-glitters, they are pretty but none are particularly special for me. If Peppermint to Be had been slightly more opaque, it, too, would have been a love. As it is, it's a deep like.

Head on over to www.chinaglaze.com to see much more from this brand.

FingerPaints Holiday 2015

*PRESS SAMPLES*

Hello, friends! Today I'd like to share six beautiful new shades from FingerPaints for the 2015 holiday season. Up first, some pics:
From thumb to pinky, two coats each of Romanesque Rouge, Vintage Vincent, Golden Glaze, Romanesque Rouge, Vintage Vincent

From thumb to pinky, same colors as above topped with one coat each of Tinsel & Tidings (thumb), Sterling Sculpture (index) and Be Merry & Sparkle (ring)

Overall, there were some surprises in this collection for me. I expected to absolutely LOVE Vintage Vincent from the bottle. However, as you can see, especially in the first pic, I was left with VNL even after two coats. A serious bummer. I got better opacity from Romanesque Rouge and even Golden Glaze. I was also quite surprised by the excellent coverage I got from each of the glitters. They applied so easily and the glitter dispersement was terrific, especially from Tinsel & Tidings and Be Merry & Sparkle. A mixed bag but overall, a fun collection for the season.

These polishes may be purchased at Sally Beauty Supply or at www.sallybeauty.com

NYC New York Color Eye Products

*PRESS SAMPLES*

Hello, friends! Today I'd like to share some pretty eye products from NYC New York Color. I have two NYC Cityproof 24 Hour Waterproof Eyeshadows and two NYC HD Automatic Waterproof Eyeliners. Here's a pic of the swatches:
These swatches, from top to bottom, are NYC Cityproof 24 Hour Waterproof Eyeshadow in Murray Hills Champagne and Brooklyn Mocha. The bottom two swatches are NYC HD Automatic Waterproof Eyeliner in Black and Deep Brown.

These products provide great coverage with very little effort, love that. They are quite pigmented and so easy to work with. I couldn't be happier with any of the four!

China Glaze Fall 2015

*PRESS SAMPLE*

I know. I suck. I am so behind on my posts and for that, I truly apologize. I'm caught up with swatching and photographing but not with writing. And, somehow, in my blondeness, I managed to "lose" a photo where I swatched five new China Glaze polishes. D'oh! (#bloggerprobs) I'm so sorry, friends. However, I will insert a photo as soon as I either find it or get a chance to re-swatch and re-shoot. In the meantime, I do have seven really pretty new China Glaze polishes to share with you. Feast your eyes!
From thumb to pinky, two coats each of China Glaze Gone Glamping, Sleeping Under the Stars, Pondering, Wood You Wanna and Cabin Fever

From thumb to pinky, two coats each, alternating, of Check Out the Silver Fox and Let's Dew It

I'm pretty psyched to say that of these seven polishes, I believe that three could possibly be one-coaters, namely Sleeping Under the Stars, Wood You Wanna and Check Out the Silver Fox. My favorite of the seven is Wood You Wanna (and c'mon, how can you not LOVE that name).  As you may or may not know, I'm not a big fan of glitters but I was actually very impressed with Let's Dew It. It applied easily and I didn't have to resort to dotting it on. It provided nice even coverage and I know I'll wear it a ton.

The "missing" polishes are Free Bear Hugs, Take a Hike, S'more Fun, My Lodge or Yours and Change Your Altitude. Will try to get a pic posted asap. Again, my apologies for its absence.

Barielle Mirror, Mirror Collection

*PRESS SAMPLE*

Today I'd like to share Barielle's Mirror, Mirror collection. It is comprised of five pretty creams. Here's a peek.
From thumb to pinky, two coats each of Barielle Blushing Beauty, Ribbon & Lace, Pretty Women, Feathered Slippers and Silk Stockings

I am very pleased with all five of these colors. They provided great coverage in two easy coats and shine line nobody's business. My personal favorites are Ribbon & Lace and Feathered Slippers. But, honestly, I can't find a "miss" in this collection.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Review

*PRESS SAMPLE*

Hello, friends! Today I have three polishes from the Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure collection. As you may know, these polishes are the proud owners of my FAVORITE brushes ever. They are wide and flat and make application a breeze. So, really, these are always a hit with me, presuming the color suits my fancy. Anyway, on to the pic.
From thumb to pinky, Rose Glass, Concrete Jungle, Midnight Affair, Rose Glass, Midnight Affair (two coats each)

For me, these polishes are a mixed bag. Again, the brushes are fabulous. I find they are wonderful to speed application and despite the width, I feel like they give me great control. However, the colors are not all to my particular taste. Rose Glass, still quite sheer after two coats, is sort of "meh" for me. It's just not my type of color. However, if you're into a more conservative look, either for work or your own personal preference, you might want to give this one a try. Concrete Jungle is my favorite of the three. It's opaque and really a true grey, not the "greige" that so many seem to be these days. This is a cooler-toned grey and very vivid, just perfect for my style. Midnight Affair, in spite of being blue, is only my second fave. It's pretty but nothing all that special to me. Plus, it was semi-sheer even after two coats, although this pic may not indicate such.

Overall, the hit for me out of these three is Concrete Jungle. I highly recommend it!

Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear Review

*PRESS SAMPLES*

Hi, friends! Today I'd like to share some pretties from Sally Hansen. These three polishes are all part of their Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear collection. Feast your eyes!
Two coats each of Gypsy Jade and Boho Blue alternating from thumb to pinky.

Added two coats of Strike Gold on ring finger.

I was very impressed with two out of three of these polishes. Boho Blue was gorgeous and fairly opaque in two coats. I also loved Strike Gold. I'm not usually a fan of chunky glitters but this one applied really easily with great glitter coverage. I didn't have to dot the glitter on at all, just applied like a normal polish, which was a pleasant surprise. I didn't dislike Gypsy Jade, it's a beautiful color, but it was still pretty sheer after two coats. I tend to not add a third coat when polishing because it starts to get thick and I rarely get it to dry without denting or smudging it. So, it's pretty but not a favorite. Overall though, I'm a fan of Sally Hansen brushes which are nice and wide, and the color payoff is great.

Press Release - Sally Hansen ManiMatch App

THE NEW AUGMENTED-REALITY NAIL POLISH TRY-ON APP
FROM SALLY HANSEN: LIVE, 3D AND FIRST TO MARKET
ManiMatchTM DELIGHTS USERS WITH NEW INSTANT-SCAN TECHNOLOGY, 3D AUGMENTED REALITY TRY-ON OVER 200 SALLY HANSEN SHADES AND PERSONALIZED RECOMMENDATIONS IN REAL TIME

NEW YORK, NEW YORK. Building on next-generation augmented reality technology, Sally Hansen the #1-selling nail color and nail care brand in the US is transforming the shopping experience with the new ManiMatchTM mobile app. Users can try on the rainbow of over 200 Sally Hansen nail polish shades in real time, on their nails, before they buy. A simple scan of the user’s hand from any smartphone enables the user to instantly consider and curate her own color choices. There’s no uploading, picture-taking or manual data entry, as the app works in real time. It also generates personalized-for-her-skin-tone color suggestions on demand; using cutting-edge, proprietary technology, the app senses and analyzes the pigments in each user’s hand, then matches its polish-shade suggestions to the ones optimally flattering to her skin.

Choosing the perfect shade is traditionally both the most fun and the most difficult aspect of shopping for nail color; consumers surreptitiously dab color onto a single or several nails to approximate how given shades might look on their hands in relation to skin tones, mood or outfit. ManiMatchTM flips the trial-on- ly-post-purchase shopping experience that has always frustrated nail color shoppers, transforming the process into a moment of discovery, excitement and pleasure. “The app is addictive; everyone who tries it can’t stop herself from checking out more options,” says Jeremy Lowenstein, Sally Hansen Global Marketing Vice President. “The fact that you see exactly how a color will look on your own hands is just pure fun—and incredibly useful. People end up experimenting with shades they’d never normally try.”
“The innovative technology uses bespoke skin tone analysis and an algorithm to map the hand.” – says Kristen D’Arcy, Global Digital Vice President. “It tracks the individual nuances of the user’s hands, analyzes skin tone, finds the nail beds, and photo-realistically simulates our nail polish shades, with shine: the finished manicure appears instantly on the user’s hand. ManiMatchTM generates shade suggestions across all Sally Hansen’s product lines, including Miracle Gel, Complete Salon Manicure, Insta-Dri and Xtreme Wear, so users can easily navigate and experience every color they desire.”
The launch of this app coincides with the release of the new Miracle Gel® Top Coat and new fashionable shades. Available for download for free on iOS platforms when it launches September 2015 (and select Android devices later in fall), ManiMatchTM is poised to revolutionize nail color shopping, both in store and ecommerce. Sally Hansen will host a kick-off consumer event in NYC to introduce the app. The first users to share the experience with a friend will have a chance to become the next Sally Hansen hand model for Sally Hansen social media
Check out this fun shot of Julianne Hough trying out the new app, courtesy of the folks at Sally Hansen!

Hi, I'm Kari and I Like Lip Balm...a Lot.

Hello, friends! This is a post that has been requested several times and I'm finally ready to share it with you. Let me preface this by saying, yes, I have an extraordinary amount of lip balm. With very few exceptions, it was all purchased by me, traded for or gifted to me by friends and family. Will I use it all in my lifetime?  Probably not. Is it a relatively inexpensive thing that I really enjoy collecting? You're darn tootin'! And, therefore, in spite of the Judgey McJudgersons who will find it necessary to comment negatively while collecting their Hummels or Precious Moments or pencil erasers or stickers or toenail clippings or whatever it is that floats their collecting boats, I am now prepared to share with you, in its entirety, my lip balm collection.  Feast your eyes!
This bin contains my Lotta Luv brand lip balms.

Here are my Chap Stick, Soft Lips, Nivea and other miscellaneous brands as well as "novelty-shaped" lip balms.

This bin contains most of my Lip Smacker lip balms.

More Lip Smackers and a few randoms.

This dish contains my Revos (including one I blinged out with Dollar Tree stickers)

And finally, my eos collection.

Yup. Here it is. My very large lip balm collection. I'm not sure exactly why I love it so much. It's useful, of course. It smells wonderful and, ideally, tastes wonderful, too. But why on earth would someone need 350+? I can't answer that. I know that part of it stems from my childhood. As is the case with most little girls (and some little boys, too), lip balm is the first thing I was allowed to wear on my face related to makeup. To this day, it makes me happy (even though, for the most part, I've lost interest in makeup). It also reminds me of my beloved Grandma Blum, sadly, no longer with us. Rarely did I see that woman without a Bonne Bell Lip Smacker nearby. There was usually one on her kitchen table when we'd share talks over cookies and milk (or, later, tea). The sight, feel, smell and taste of a Lip Smacker in particular takes me right back to those wonderful times. And that is more than worth the small price I pay for them.

I feel like I am justifying myself when I realize that I really don't have to. Lip balm makes me happy, pure and simple, and that is reason enough to collect. I know that many of you (if not all) will understand. And if not, you feel free to keep on enjoying those toenail clippings behind closed doors. I promise not to judge you.

xo,
K

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel - Random Reviews

*PRESS SAMPLES*

Hello again, friends! Today I have some gorgeous Miracle Gel polishes from Sally Hansen to share with you. I'll be featuring five shades and I'll get right to the pics:
Bottle shots! From left to right: Boho a Go-Go, Blue Hue, Rhythm & Blue, Fish-teal Braid and Buffalo Nickel

From thumb to pinky, two coats each of Sally Hansen Miracle Gel in Buffalo Nickel, Fish-teal Braid, Rhythm & Blue, Blue Hue and Boho a Go-Go

The Miracle Gel line from Sally Hansen is designed to be worn with the accompanying Miracle Gel top coat in order to get gel mani-like durability and wear. However, for the sake of these swatches, I did not use top coat. Yes, they are this shiny on their own! I was very happy with each of these. They come with the wide Sally Hansen brush I adore, making application a breeze. My one fault with these is that Fish-teal Braid is a BAD stainer. Always a bummer but sometimes, it's the price you pay for a great color. Overall, I'm very happy with these polishes.

Zoya Fall 2015 Focus Collection

*PRESS SAMPLES*

Hello friends! Today I'd like to share Zoya's other Fall 2015 collection. It is called Focus and consists of six cream shades. First up, the pics:
From thumb to pinky, two coats each of Zoya Janel, Sia, Lidia, Desiree and Charli

From thumb to pinky, two coats each of Zoya Hannah, Sia, Lidia, Desiree and Charli

I probably sound like a broken record but honestly, I rarely encounter a Zoya polish without an easy-to-apply formula and this collection is no exception. While these shades might not be the most original, it's a solid collection of creams just perfect for the fall. Not surprisingly, the standout for me is the pretty blue Sia.

If you pick these up, I'd love to hear your favorite(s).

Zoya Flair Collection for Fall 2015

*PRESS SAMPLES*

Hello, friends! Today I'd like to share the new Flair collection for fall 2015 from Zoya. First up, the pics.
From thumb to pinky: two coats each of Zoya Ember, Estelle, Giada, Tris and Cinnamon

From thumb to pinky: two coats each of Zoya Ember, Estelle, Giada, Tris and Aggie

This is a fabulous collection! I love the metallic shimmery look of all six of these shades. The formula was fabulous and they applied like a dream. In my opinion, the stand-outs are Estelle (hello, BLUE), Tris and Cinnamon. Cinnamon in particular is a fave because the world needs more gorgeous shimmery metallic browns, especially ones that are suitable for cooler skin tones.

Stay tuned for my thoughts on the Zoya Focus collection, coming soon!

Revo Lip Balm Summer 2015 Collection

*PRESS SAMPLES AND GIFTS*
Hi friends! Today I'd like to share my thoughts on the Revo Lip Balm Summer 2015 collection. Of course, as always, I'll jump right to the pics!
Here they are! From red to light pink they are Cherry Cola, Orange Mango, Pina Colada, Pink Lemonade and Cotton Candy

Here is a shot of the goodness inside.

It's awesome that Revo puts the flavor names on the outer seal but once you've removed the plastic wrap, the flavor is a mystery, right?  WRONG!  Don't say I never did anything for ya!

These labels, available at pretty much any office supply store as well as Walmart, Target, etc. solve your problem.  They fit perfectly on the bottoms of the balms!

Now, let's get to each flavor specifically, shall we? I'll start with Cherry Cola. I am very into soda-flavored things, even though I'm really trying to cut back on my actual soda consumption. With the exception of the occasional root beer float (are you listening, Revo? Wouldn't that be an amazing flavor to add to your line, along with cream soda? You're welcome), I rarely drink "real" soda anymore. Now, my next trick will be giving up the diet stuff. But, I digress. In a pinch, this wonderful Cherry Cola balm helps satisfy my soda cravings in a way that is calorie free, score! I think Revo captures the essence of Cherry Cola very well in both scent and flavor.

Orange Mango was an ambitious idea. While I LOVE the scent and flavor, I get very strong mango and very little orange. Not a bad thing, it's great. I guess it is just hard to capture both flavors equally. Still, I really love the mango-ness (not a word but I'm making it one) of this balm.

Do you like Pina Coladas? (C'mon, I had to!) I love them. And I love this balm. Unfortunately, not quite enough scent or flavor for me. Is it accurate? Yes. Is it strong enough? Not quite, for me. As always, just my opinions here, please judge for yourselves.

Pink Lemonade is next. Let me say this right off the bat...I...LOVE...Pink...Lemonade (the beverage). Few things are more thirst-quenching and delicious, especially on a hot summer day. As for the Revo version...I...LOVE...Pink...Lemonade. I think they did a fabulous job in capturing the scent and flavor of this tasty treat.

Lastly, Cotton Candy. Yum. Can we just take a moment to appreciate the deliciousness that is cotton candy? I'll wait.........okay.  Revo's cotton candy balm smells just like the real thing. However, I was slightly disappointed in the taste. While it does have a very subtle cotton candy flavor, I wanted a bit more *punch*, if you get my drift. This is not a girl who does subtle. Still, I love the formula (as I do for all Revos), the pale pink packaging and the fabulous fragrance. So, still a winner.

Overall, I'm super-happy with this collection. For some reason, where I live (Long Island, NY), is is extremely difficult to find the Revo limited edition collections like this one. Once in a rare while, I'll find one or two, but never the complete collection, and I HUNT. Seriously. Like seven Walgreens locations. Therefore, I'm extremely grateful that the kind folks at Revo sent me a few of these to review and that my dear friend, Christine, who lives in another state, was kind enough to send me the rest. Otherwise, you'd probably still here Kari crying wherever you are. As I kinda sorta implied, you can find this limited edition collection at your local Walgreens. I hope. If you don't live on Long Island. If you pick up any or all of these, I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Until next time, stay beautiful, butterflies!

xo,
Kari

*As stated, some of the products mentioned in this post were sent to me for review purposes. The remaining products were either gifts from a friend (the remaining lip balms) or purchased by me (the labels). As always, all opinions expressed are completely my own.
