Sally Hansen Miracle Gel - Fall 2016

Hi, friends! I know, its been a while! I apologize, I've actually been more active on my YouTube channel, lately, which you can find HERE if you so desire. I'm doing beauty reviews there, as well as vlogs, collectible unboxings and much more. The blog will remain, I'm just focusing more on growing the channel right now.

Anyway, I have some new pretties from Sally Hansen's Miracle Gel line to show you today. I received three colors to review as well as the coordinating top coat, the second step in the two step system. Let me get right to the pics:

This shot features two coats of Stilettos & Studs on all but my ring finger and two coats of Game of Chromes on my accent nail. All are topped with one coat of the Miracle Gel top coat.

This shot features two coats of Rock On, followed by one coat of Miracle Gel top coat.

Overall, this is a bit of a mixed bag for me. I LOVE the Miracle Gel brushes, wide and easy to control, the same ones used in Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure. Stilettos & Studs, which is a charcoal-y chrome with a bit of shimmer, is gorgeous and right up my alley. Game of Chromes (how great is that name) was a surprise for me. I did not expect to love it as I'm more partial to cool-toned chromes (re: grey, silver, platinum) than gold but I actually really adore this polish! They were both nice and opaque in two coats. The top coat works like a charm and I had the top mani for at least a solid week before I noticed any tip wear and NO chips aside from that. YAY! I just applied Rock On moments ago (yes, I'm typing with "damp" nails) but so far, not really loving it. I'm not a big fan of "grainy" textures in polish and this one definitely falls into that category. But, we shall see, it might grow on me.

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel - July 2016

Hi, friends! First of all, I apologize for my long absence. I've been embarking on a whole new Butterfly's Landing adventure...YouTube! It seems that some folks prefer videos to reading and I, of course, would like to share with as wide an audience as possible, so I'm adding that to my repertoire. While I will continue to write here (as writing is my first love. Well, after my husband...and mom...and cats...and friends...you get the gist), I would LOVE it if you would subscribe to my channel as well. Just click right HERE. 

Now, on to the polish! I received three beautiful shades from Sally Hansen's Miracle Gel line. They are Pink Cadilaquer, Freesia Your Mind and Prince Char-mint (can we talk about how cute those names are?)

This is two coats each of Pink Cadilaquer (on my thumb and middle finger), Freesia Your Mind (on my index and pinky fingers) and Prince Char-mint (on my ring finger).

Overall, I am really happy with all three of these polishes. The pink and green definitely needed two coats to even out but I am thrilled to say that I could have gotten away with just one coat on FYM! That is always a huge plus for me. I topped all nails with the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel top coat (step two of their no-light gel system) which they say can keep your mani looking great for up to 14 days. That would be incredible but honestly, if I can get even 7 days wear with the mani still looking good, I'd be quite satisfied. The formula was easy to work with and the wide brushes are perfect for application. Definite winners, all!

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Spring 2016 Pretties

Hi, friends! Today I'd like to share two gorgeous spring shades from Sally Hansen's Miracle Gel collection. I'll get right to the pics!

Carry On Blue and In My Suitcase

I really love both of these colors. Carry On Blue is a great kind of robin's egg color and In My Suitcase is a pretty greige (grey/beige). Unfortunately, the blue was a bit patchy even after two coats and I would definitely add a third coat for future wearings. Nevertheless, I'm a sucker for sky blue so I'll definitely get a lot of use out of it.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Review

Hello, friends! Today I have three polishes from the Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure collection. As you may know, these polishes are the proud owners of my FAVORITE brushes ever. They are wide and flat and make application a breeze. So, really, these are always a hit with me, presuming the color suits my fancy. Anyway, on to the pic.

From thumb to pinky, Rose Glass, Concrete Jungle, Midnight Affair, Rose Glass, Midnight Affair (two coats each)

For me, these polishes are a mixed bag. Again, the brushes are fabulous. I find they are wonderful to speed application and despite the width, I feel like they give me great control. However, the colors are not all to my particular taste. Rose Glass, still quite sheer after two coats, is sort of "meh" for me. It's just not my type of color. However, if you're into a more conservative look, either for work or your own personal preference, you might want to give this one a try. Concrete Jungle is my favorite of the three. It's opaque and really a true grey, not the "greige" that so many seem to be these days. This is a cooler-toned grey and very vivid, just perfect for my style. Midnight Affair, in spite of being blue, is only my second fave. It's pretty but nothing all that special to me. Plus, it was semi-sheer even after two coats, although this pic may not indicate such. 

Overall, the hit for me out of these three is Concrete Jungle. I highly recommend it!

Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear Review

Hi, friends! Today I'd like to share some pretties from Sally Hansen. These three polishes are all part of their Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear collection. Feast your eyes!

Two coats each of Gypsy Jade and Boho Blue alternating from thumb to pinky.

Added two coats of Strike Gold on ring finger.

I was very impressed with two out of three of these polishes. Boho Blue was gorgeous and fairly opaque in two coats. I also loved Strike Gold. I'm not usually a fan of chunky glitters but this one applied really easily with great glitter coverage. I didn't have to dot the glitter on at all, just applied like a normal polish, which was a pleasant surprise. I didn't dislike Gypsy Jade, it's a beautiful color, but it was still pretty sheer after two coats. I tend to not add a third coat when polishing because it starts to get thick and I rarely get it to dry without denting or smudging it. So, it's pretty but not a favorite. Overall though, I'm a fan of Sally Hansen brushes which are nice and wide, and the color payoff is great.

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel - Random Reviews

Hello again, friends! Today I have some gorgeous Miracle Gel polishes from Sally Hansen to share with you. I'll be featuring five shades and I'll get right to the pics:

The Miracle Gel line from Sally Hansen is designed to be worn with the accompanying Miracle Gel top coat in order to get gel mani-like durability and wear. However, for the sake of these swatches, I did not use top coat. Yes, they are this shiny on their own! I was very happy with each of these. They come with the wide Sally Hansen brush I adore, making application a breeze. My one fault with these is that Fish-teal Braid is a BAD stainer. Always a bummer but sometimes, it's the price you pay for a great color. Overall, I'm very happy with these polishes.

Hi friends! Today, I have two more Sally Hansens for you. These are from a new line called Insta-Ombre and the colors I have to show you are Grey-diant and Cobalt Coat. As always, let's get right to the pic!

These polishes are designed to give an ombre effect. Sadly, I didn't really see it. The instructions say to apply one coat to the entire nail, wait a minute, apply a second coat to part of the nail, wait a minute and finally apply a third coat to just the tips. I did as instructed but don't see anything ombre about this mani. I do, however, think these glitters will be nice as general top coats. The glitter is fine and plentiful, both wonderful qualities in my book. So, for an ombre look, no go for me, but as a glitter top coat, they're a win.

Sally Hansen Vandal Eyes and Rainbow Fish

Today I have a couple of Sally Hansen polishes to share with you. One is from their Insta-Dri line and is called Vandal Eyes. The second is from a new-ish line, Pearl Crush, and it is called Rainbow Fish. Here are some pics:

Let's cut to the chase. I am not a fan of chunky glitters. I rarely have much success in applying them, even when I resort to dabbing on pieces one at a time with a toothpick. Rainbow Fish was no exception. I wanted to love it. Iridescent pearly pastel glitter sounds like a dream. Alas, even with my best efforts I could only get those two measly pieces to stick and they don't really "sing" to me. Super-bummer. However, despite the fact that Vandal Eyes was still a bit patchy after two coats, it is sky blue and lovely and I'm willing to work with that. Therefore, a mixed bag with this duo. But hey, 50% success is better than a total fail, right?

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Pretties

Hello, friends! Today I'd like to share some new pretties from Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure! Feast your eyes!

From left to right: Pink Shell, Dark Denim, Desert Poppy, Pink Shell (two coats each)

Each of these polishes applied easily and dried quickly (if you're a regular here, you know that I ADORE the CSM brushes). While Pink shell was a bit frosty for my taste, they were all opaque and pretty in two coats. My favorite of the three is Desert Poppy, a bright, sunny orange.

Sally Hansen Glitters

Hello, lovelies!  Today I have some glitters from Sally Hansen to share with you.  Let me get right to the pic (please click the image for a bigger pic).

From left to right: One coat each of Over the Rainblue, Blue Moonlight, Meteor Light and Goldi-Flecks

Over the Rainblue is a Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure polish and the remaining three are from the Sally Hansen Big Glitter Topcoat collection.  If you're a frequent reader of this blog, I'm probably about to shock you.  I actually kind of liked these.  This is by no means my attempt at disparaging Sally Hansen as I generally love their products.  It is actually a big compliment to them as I generally HATE chunky glitter polishes.  Too hard to apply, too hard to remove, just not my thing.  However, all things considered, I got really great glitter dispersement from these polishes and they were actually easier to remove than most chunky glitters.  Imagine that, chunky glitters getting a thumbs UP from me?  It's true, you read it here!

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel: Hydro Electric and Greyfitti

Today I'd like to introduce you to a cool new line from Sally Hansen called Miracle Gel.  The following is directly from the Sally Hansen website:

Three coats of Hydro Electric on ring finger and three coats of Greyfitti on all other fingers, plus top coat on all.

I have never personally had a gel mani but my mom gets them frequently and they typically last almost two weeks without chipping.  I have had this mani for one week and I now have quite a bit of chipping BUT I believe I made it five days with NO chips whatsoever.  Clearly, not the same result as a true gel mani (at least for me) but considering that I usually have chips within two or three days, not a bad result. I did need three coats of Greyfitti (not two) to achieve full opacity.  With Hydro Electric, two coats was sufficient but I added a third to keep them uniform.  

Overall, I'm pretty darn happy with these polishes.  Until I personally get a traditional gel mani, I can't definitively say that they provide similar results.  But the fact that my mani lasted five days chip free is terrific.

"Do these gels come off easily with regular polish remover?"

The answer is a resounding YES!  In fact, I only needed one cotton ball of acetone polish remover for each hand.  AND the blue DIDN'T stain!  Yahoo!!

Sally Hansen - Triple Shine

I received five polishes from Sally Hansen's Triple Shine line to review for you.  The colors are Blow Bubbles, Make Waves, Pool Party, Drama Sheen and Clam Up.  I'll start you off with a bottle shot.

Here they are on my nails.  I used two coats of each polish.

I'll cut right to the chase, I was seriously disappointed with these polishes.  As you can see, even after two coats, they are EXTREMELY sheer.  The brushes were fantastic, nice and wide and easy to use, and the formulas applied with ease.  Thus, I was super-bummed when they didn't achieve opacity or even get close to it after two coats.  However, if you know someone young who wants to play with color but you don't want them to go overboard, these might be a nice option for experimenting.

Sally Hansen Sugar Coat - Sour Apple and Razzleberry

Sally Hansen has launched a line that captures the hot trend of textured polishes.  It is called Sugar Coat.  Today, I'd like to share two of them with you, *Sour Apple and *Razzleberry.  Feast your eyes.

Ring finger: two coats of Razzleberry.  Remaining fingers: two coats of Sour Apple

These polishes are true creams, no shimmer, no sparkle.  Application was a breeze, just two thin coats without top or base.  They dried really fast and though they chipped within a few days, the textured nature of this polish made touch-ups so easy. Razzleberry did stain, as many deep blues do, but otherwise, I was quite happy with these fun colors.

Sally Hansen Golden Globes Looks!

At the 70th annual Golden Globes, glamorous nails were the ultimate accessory. Three of the night's biggest stars --Naomi Watts, Jennifer Lawrence and singer Adele -- manicurists turned to Sally Hansen to create their signature nail looks for the red carpet.

Celebrity nail expert Tracey Sutter created the look for Watts, nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture--Drama. Tracey used Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Arm Candy to create a natural effect.

To get the look, Sutter filed down Naomi's nails very short before applying Sally Hansen's Cuticle Instant Remover. Next, Sutter applied 2 coats of Sally Hansen's new Complete Salon Manicure Nail Color in Arm Candy - giving Watts just the right amount of color she wanted.

Jennifer Lawrence

April Foreman was the expert behind Lawrence's nail look, using Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Sheer Ecstasy for the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture--Comedy or Musical nominee.

To get the look, Foreman shaped Lawrence’s nails “sqound” giving both a square and round look. Keeping her hands hydrated, Foreman applied Sally Hansen Smooth and Perfect Hand Crème before applying 2 coats of Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Sheer Ecstasy.

Adele

Celebrity Manicurist, Kimmie Kyees used on Adele a sheer coat of Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in So Much Fawn with two coats of Complete Salon Manicure in Copper Penny layered on top. Kyees finished off the look with an exclusive topcoat created for tonight that had gold in it to help enhance the color in Copper Penny for the best Original Song, Film nominee.

Sally Hansen Magnetic Nail Color - Part Two

Happy August, kittens!  Today I'd like to share the remainder of the Sally Hansen Magnetic Nail Color Collection. I swatched and reviewed three colors in a previous post which you can view HERE.  Now I'd like to share the other five colors, *Polar Purple, *Kinetic Copper, *Golden Conduct, *Graphite Gravity and *Silver Elements.  Here are some pics for you:

I really enjoy these polishes!  My nail art skills are limited, to say the least, and these great magnetic polishes allow even humble me to create a beautiful and funky look with little effort.  The sparkle of Golden Conduct and Silver Elements, visible in the bottle, translated beautifully to the nail and the other three, while not sparkly, are still quite lovely.  My husband looooves the look of these polishes and was so impressed!

Today I'd like to share my swatches of and thoughts on Sally Hansen Magnetic Nail Color.  If you are unfamiliar with the concept, magnetic polishes are somehow formulated (don't ask me how, I don't know the science behind it) to work in conjunction with magnets to make patterns on your nails.  I have three colors to share with you, *Ionic Indigo, *Electric Emerald and *Red-y Response.  Let me begin with the pics:

The bottles: Ionic Indigo, Electric Emerald, Red-y Response.  The outer caps feature a wave design, representing the pattern the magnets make on your nails.

Step 1 – Apply 1 coat of base coat. Shake Magnetic Nail Color to activate. Remove overcap with magnet and set aside. Apply 1 coat of Magnetic Nail Color to all 10 nails and let dry.
Step 2 – Apply a thick second coat of color to 1 nail and immediately hold the built-in magnet over the nail. Rest the guide just below the cuticle without touching the wet nail polish. Hold for 10 seconds. Repeat for all 10 nails and let dry. Finish with a top coat.

I chose to skip the base coat, just for time's sake, and went directly to the one coat of Magnetic Nail Color. It went on really smoothly and dried relatively quickly and, honestly, could be worn without even utilizing its magnetic qualities as a very pretty polish.  But, of course, the magnetic qualities are what make them extra special.  I followed the directions to the letter, applying a much thicker coat than I typically would with ordinary polish, then held the magnet as close to my nail as I could without touching the polish (I'll admit, I goofed a few times on my right hand and had to re-do them when the magnet touched the polish.)  I also left the magnet there for more like 12 - 14 seconds, just to be on the safe side.  Unfortunately, because the cap and magnet covered my entire nail, I couldn't actually watch the magic happen.  But, when I moved the lid away from my nail and saw the end result, I was quite impressed.  Not only did it make a fun wavy pattern on my nail but the "waves" looked significantly darker than the rest of the polish.  I was afraid the effect would be super-subtle and difficult to see but it wasn't at all.  My husband was SUPER impressed and he is getting a bit jaded by my polish obsession, though he's still really supportive, bless his little heart.  I found that I had varying success with each nail in terms of how distinct the pattern appeared.  I suspect that tinkering with the time I hold the magnet there and how close the magnet gets to each nail would account for that, not to mention the size and shape of each particular nail.  Overall, however, I am really happy with how these polishes worked for me and I'm looking forward to trying them at different angles to try to get vertical and diagonal patterns next time.
